From Gaming PCs to Enterprise IT

Command & Conquer and World of Warcraft on my brother's PC turned into a career in IT. This is how that happened.

My interest in computers started with games. I played Command & Conquer and World of Warcraft on my brother's PC, and I was hooked.

Games led to people, and people led to hardware

Playing online, I met people with the same interests. Talking with them got me asking how things worked, and eventually I started building my own PCs.

From PCs to servers

Building PCs led to home servers and hosting multiplayer games.

Harvey Norman

I worked in the computers department at Harvey Norman from 2015 to 2018, as a sales assistant, a computer technician and in printing services. That was where a hobby became a practical skill. I helped customers, diagnosed hardware problems, did repairs and installed software.

Enterprise IT

From there I moved into enterprise IT, starting on the service desk at Opteon in August 2018. I have since moved through senior service desk work into a systems role, working with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and PowerShell automation.

Still a hobbyist

I still build, host and tinker. My homelab, my software projects and my interest in making things all come from the same curiosity that started with those games.
