StreetAkuma Shopify Theme

My first Shopify theme, built for a streetwear brand I am developing, and a way to learn theme development properly.

What it is

StreetAkuma is a streetwear brand I am building, with a Japanese-influenced techwear style. The storefront runs on Shopify, and I am building its theme myself.

Why I am building it

I want the site to do specific things with animation, and a generic theme will not get me there. It is also a test case. I want to learn how Shopify themes work by building a real one, so that I can build more of my own later.

How I am approaching it

The theme uses Shopify's Online Store 2.0 structure: Liquid, JSON templates, and sections and blocks that can be managed in the theme editor. It started from a design prototype, and the aim is to turn that into a maintainable theme, not to copy the prototype's code line for line.

Goals

  • Use real Shopify product, collection and cart data
  • Stay manageable through the theme editor
  • Pass Shopify's Theme Check

Status

In development.
